Propulsion and Control systems for tramcars

The VVVF traction inverters (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) are using the latest IGBT technology with wide power output range for providing high dynamic performance of the trams.
The containers can be roof mounted or installed under the frame depending on the body shell construction. They are mostly forced air cooled bud liquid cooling is also available alternatively. The integrated traction control unit can be connected to all standardizes upper level communication networks for heaving train level control, supervision and diagnostic.
Both squirrel cage Asynchronous Motors (AM) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) have been applied in the different types of trams. The AMs are mostly self ventilated bud forced air or liquid cooling is also available depending on the bogie construction. The direct axle drives with PMSM are cooled by liquid.
